Today I did meal rounds again this morning at the SAR unit! I tried to get a close estimate of how much of each Pt’s tray was consumed. I also helped in creating the follow-up notes, and it’s kind of fun seeing the new MD orders and the progress each Pt goes through. After all, the goal is to get the Pt in good health in order for them to be discharged. In the afternoon, I experienced my first real counseling session with a Resident at the nursing home. I lost my counseling virginity (lol)! It was nerve-wracking because my preceptor was watching me and grading me, so all these factors made me nervous and in my head. However, it wasn’t that bad. I counseled a Pt on managing diabetes. I definitely need more practice in my confidence and carrying the session to be more organized…but it’s my first time and it’s a learning process. I want to get as much practice and guidance as I can! Hopefully my next stab at it isn’t too bad. I got over this hurdle so all I’m feeling right now is relief…and boy oh boy do I have a lot of growth coming my way…!
